Sweet Micky : G.N.B.
Wow, I don’t even know how to start this review. It’s so amazing and strange at the same time how Micky is
getting older everyday but his konpa is still creating a buzz in the HMI to the point that I think if you put Micky
in front of any well known and respected band he will stand hard on them and might even cause them to worry
a little. With the release of this new GNB album and the acquisitions of two new musicians who are Papi and
Stephane Gilles (former Groov’ la) micky will surely hype you up in any live performance.

1.        GNB: This song (album title) is a slogan which was used in Haiti during the transition period when people
took the streets to protest against the government. Considering that things have not really changed in the
country Micky is basically giving everyone a wake up call to tell them that it’s about time to put hands together
to change the country. We have to start living like normal people would and the situation cannot stay like that.
The solo in this song done by Roberto Martineau is very catchy and nice. I didn’t think it was him because it
looks a lot like micky. So I guess he played in a way that fits micky. Ansyto’s solo does its thing in that song also.
Very up tempo beat guaranteed to make you dance.

2.        La vi a bel: This song is like a tribute, and what micky is saying is that you have to treasure life because it’s
very precious and you should make the best out of everything you do and always be positive. This song is a series
of advice to the young generation of Haiti and the world. It is a very nice text. Ti Regi from Djakout adds his
magic touch better known as “Son lari a” which is very catchy and goes very well with the song. Ansyto does his
thing as usual with a very nice solo. This song is very nice but I don’t think it can make it in live performances we’
ll see.

3.        Fete Fete: Once of my favorites on this album, as we know micky is very good with love songs. In this
one, he’s giving a little info on love and what comes with it the good and bad times etc.. If I understand this
right, this girl is might at him and is crying. So he is telling her not to cry because loves doesn’t play it’s the truth
even if you are mad today, there will be happy days to come in the future. Papi does his part in the middle of the
song with a smooth but catchy solo with nice and smooth vocals in the background. Shortly after, Ansyto
comes in with a solo that looks simple but when you take your time to hear it, I notice that it’is not that easy as
I thought before. However, it is very catchy and nice like always. One of the sleepers on this album watch out for
it.

4.        Mwen pap divose: One of the nicest if not the nicest song on this album when it comes to text
arrangements solos everything is perfect in that song. It’s a very common thing to have guys cheat on their
wives. Well it’s the case for micky in that song. He is a cheater but even if he loves his mistress he has to stay with
his wife no matter. He rather lives with this sin because he loves his mistress a lot but if he divorces his wife he will
loose a lot of things like his house, his kids basically everything he has therefore he has to stay with her. Once
again Papi does his thing on the guitar so does Ansyto on the keys. I don’t think this song needs anything, it’s
full and the live version kills like crazy. Very nice song two thumbs up congrats to micky and Armstrong Jeune
on this one.

5.        Men nou: This song is the typical up tempo konpa song but it differs from the others by the way
everything is organized in it. This song features Wyclef and Shaba as guest artist and they do most of the singing
while Micky only comes for a short gig. But the rest of the song is dominated by Shaba and all the grooves and
solos in it. This song will kill us live particularly with Shaba. Very nice and catchy song.

6.        Non non non: This song is like another tribute to Haiti and the young generation of the country. He tells
him that Haiti will not die. We have a very good past and the young should already be thinking about how they
will make things better for the future. Loulou from Kreyol La is the one on this track and I was really shocked
because he doesn’t play like that in Kreyol La. The song is very nice and groovy. Ansyto comes in with a solo
that looks like a guitar one but has a different pattern and is groovier. Another sleeper on this album.

7.        Rakete: This song I don’t find anything special about it even though it’s a nice text. I don’t really feel it.
Micky talks about the good and bad thing about Haiti and how he misses a lot of these things. Besides the nice
solos and grooves, there is anything special to say about it.

8.        Sonje: This song is almost the same text as do you remember by Michael Jackson they talk about the
same things. The only difference is that in this one Micky broke up with the girl after a while but he still doesn’t
see why they broke up because there was no reason for this. Ansyto added a very nice solo in this song and Papi
backs him up on the guitar, it kind of synchronizes in the song. Jut like the previous one nothing to go crazy
for, but it is still nice.

9.        Eastern Parkway: Micky talks for himself and lets everyone know that he is the ruler when it comes to
carnival and nobody can take that away from him. He also says they should when he’s around to watch out and
praise him because he is the “president” like he calls himself. This song has a solo Wowww it goes perfectly with a
little jam sequence done by Micky and Ansyto just follows his path to do a very nice and groovy solo. There is no
way you cannot dance to this song. It’s so catchy and entertaining to the point that you can’t help shaking your
body from hearing it.

10.        Pouki wale: loll Micky does something in this song: I think he’s the only one capable of doing that but
it’s so perfectly done it’s not even obvious. In the 1st verse of this song micky sings in 3 different languages, starts
with French continues in Creole and finishes in English it’s a work of art. This girl left him and he’s asking her
why she left and where she is because he still needs her. The legend himself plays the guitar on this track no
wonder it’s so noticeable and tight. Robert Martineau does his thing throughout the whole song. Something I
noticed with micky on this album is that his background vocals are well worked. They sound like the ones you
would hear at the church. This song is very nice.

11.        Frero: The younger generation like Wyclef says it this song is entirely done by 3 of micky’s kids from
vocals, solos grooves and programming. You can feel that it’s not the work of a professional but it’s so nice and
well done, unless you really know Micky’s touch, you will not notice that. This song features Wyclef along side
Shaba and micky’s sons. They are talking about the whole situation in Haiti and how they wish things were
better. Even if these kids are not pros this song is very nice and makes people dance like that say “pitit tig se tig”
these kids are followings the footsteps of their father and they are on the right path. We wish them a good luck.

12.        Dekole (kanaval 2005): This song is Micky’s carnival, very typical but this one has a slower tempo.
Besides that, the whole melody remains the same. Let’s just wait and see what micky will do with that song this
year on the parkway.

Overall this album is crazyyyyyyyyy I think it’s Micky’s best work. He really took his time to put a very good
product out there and it was worth the wait. With the addition of these new musicians Micky is a killer when
performing live. He’s on top of his game and proving to everyone that he is still there stronger than ever.
